Nanomechanics & Materials Research Lab

Open positions for MS/Ph.D. students

The Nanomechanics and Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is located at the Talbot Laboratory and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.

We develop experimental methods to investigate the nanoscale mechanical behavior of materials and establish  mechanisms of deformation and failure of thin metal, ceramic, and polymeric films, and nanostructured materials such as polymer nanocomposites. This objective is coupled with our interest in understanding the associated manufacturing processes and their influence on the material response under various loading conditions.

At the core of our research are a wide variety of Atomic Force Microscopy methods that are implemented at our laboratory to resolve nanoscale material deformations and strains.
