DBF Q&A #6

Q: How do winglets/tip fins figure into the wing span for the RAC and wing tip location for the stores?

A: If the wing and winglet are clearly distinct entities and the angle between the winglet and the wing plane is greater than 60 degrees, then the "wing" definition for span and tip location will be the span/tip of the wing element alone.  If the wing and winglet are blended (such as a curved junction), or the angle of the winglet to the wing plane is less than 60 degrees then the greater of the wing or winglet tip will be used for the span/tip calculations.

Q: Can we use a "living hinge" material for control surface hinges?

A: Yes, as long as it meets with the safety of flight evaluation of the technical inspection judges.  In general, standard and accepted RC modeling practices will be ok.  If you have questions on specific or non-typical methods please submit them for review in advance so you don't have to modify your design at the fly-off.
