Damage
response of a 2-D particulate composite subjected to macroscopic
equibiaxial strain loading. The right figure shows the equivalent
stress field in the periodic representative volume element, clearly
demonstrating the debonding of the particles. The left figure shows the
resulting macroscopic stress-strain curve (black curve) and the
evolution of the damage process shown in terms of the fraction of
failing cohesive surfaces (blue curve) and of the failed interfaces for
large particles (red curve) and small particles (green curve).
