Dr. N. Sri Namachchivaya is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and the Director
of the Nonlinear Systems Group. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics
from University of Waterloo, Canada. He joined the Department of
Aerospace Engineering as an Assistant Professor in August 1985.
His research interests include nonlinear and random dynamical systems,
multi-scale phenomena, dimensional reduction, and stability and bifurcations
of invariant measures. His research activities have been supported
by funding from NSF, ONR, AFOSR, DOE, EPRI, and Industry.
Professor Sri Namachchivaya has published over 90 scientific articles in journals and books, has co-edited 12 books on nonlinear and random dynamical systems. He has been consistently recognized for his research accomplishments with Xerox awards for the best faculty research in 1989 and 1993 and with a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator award in 1990. He has been invited to give keynote lectures on Stochastic and Nonlinear Dynamics at the IUTAM Symposium on Nonlinearity and Chaos in Engineering Dynamics, in London, UK (1993), the International Conference on Stochastic and Chaotic Dynamics, Ambleside, UK (1999), the International Conference on Analysis of Vibrating Systems, Banff, Canada (1999), and the International Workshop on Symmetry and Stability in Nonlinear Mechanics, Budapest, Hungary (2000). While at UIUC, Professor Sri Namachchivaya has given invited lectures at more than forty universities in the U. S., Canada, and Europe, in the areas of nonlinear and random dynamical systems, chaotic dynamics, and bifurcation theory. Professor Sri Namachchivaya has been a distinguished visiting professor at the Technical University of Vienna (Austria), University of Bremen (Germany), the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences (Canada), University of Queensland (Australia), Florida Atlantic University, and the University of Maryland. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Mechanics, Journal of Nonlinear Science, Stochastics and Dynamics, MECCANICA, Journal Nonlinear Studies, and on the advisory board of other journals in the area of nonlinear and stochastic dynamics. Professor Sri Namachchivaya has been co-chair of 8 international conferences and co-organizer of 12 Mini-Symposia on applications of nonlinear and random dynamical systems.
